Hi from Brazil! How about a Portuguese translation?

Hi all! From Brazil!

How about a Portuguese translation of at least Symbian, iPhone and WinMob clients?

Brazil has some of the biggest cities and one of the worst traffic in the world! With Waze in Portuguese and some marketing down here I’m sure Waze will have lots of fans!

Just to mention 2 cities:

Sao Paulo
20 million inhabitants
150km to 250km of traffic jams every morning and every evening. 300km on very bad days.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_São_Paulo

Rio de Janeiro
12 millioon inhabitants
http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grande_rio_de_janeiro

In the whole country, 14 cities have more than 1 million of inhabitants.

Besides that Brazil has
170 million mobiles
2,5 million are 3G
3G mobiles are expanding very fast (near 60% in only 5 months, from march/09 till august/09)

But one problem: Brazilians in general do not feel comfortable or can not read English. If Waze really intend to be adopted in Brazil, it needs Portuguese versions as soon as possible.

Hope this help Waze Team help us Brazilians somehow!

Hi from Brazil!

We are aware of that which is why we’ve opened the Wiki for translations by the community members.
See here: http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Operation:Translation_(Portuguese_for_Brazil)

Ok. I started the translation today. Should finish it in 1 or 2 days. Please keep an eye on it and release new versions for at least Symbian and iPhone as soon as possible. (These are majority here, then Windows Mobile and only then Android.)

The more you delay a Portuguese version the more people can spoil maps, alerts, etc. just because they add them without knowing what they are doing.

Brazilian Portuguese translation finished.

As it was a translation of a list (not contextual) I’m pretty sure we’ll need some fixes afterwards. But I did my best in order to visualize context and thus translation for this first version.

Please release iPhone, Symbian and Windows Mobile clients in PT-BR as soon as possible! And just let me know about it. Then you can release Android and server based apps translated versions.
This is the best way for youl help us to help you.

Thanks.

WARNING: I saw that your Wiki translation is incomplete. Seems it is not updated.

For instance I saw lots of English phrases in Symbian client that you do not have in your translation Wiki. Please fix that, otherwise all Waze translations, to all languages, will be poor just 'cause of that. Probably this is wrong not only with Symbian.

Well, meanwhile as I have an Symbian mobile, what I did for Portuguese is to add a new table SYMBIAN EN to SYMBIAN PT-BR in Wiki. Please do check that when translating Symbian client to Portuguese.

Thanks.

Hi emersonvier, welcome!

I’m helping Waze Team in translation yet. I found out that their Wiki translation form lacks lot of stuff. I translated everything in it, but I realized that this is almost only half of the work. Well…after some investigation I built a new form that seems very complete now and it is now under Waze Team final tuning. I hope then we will have a very good - and complete - Portuguese (and other languages) translation.

My main mobile is a Nokia N82 (a Symbian device) and I run Waze v1.3.9

If you want to give and get some tips and tricks in Portuguesee, please read and join the Waze Brasil community in Orkut:

See you there!

Good night, I saw waze is already in portuguese, I’m from Brazil, and it’s good to know that, but some topics from site as Live Map and My Dashboard, do you know if its in porguese yet?

Please do not post in topics which are more than a few months old. This one hasn’t been used for 4 years. Please open a new thread. And your question has nothing to do with the Waze app but the website, so this isn’t even the right forum.
