Police waking up to Waze

I have found that it seems as if the police are starting to wake up to Waze reports. I have found that I would report police locations and then within 10-15 mins my report is just missing.

It looks like they are looking at their phones and then as soon as the report comes through they accept it as “Not there”.

Can I maybe suggest that a minimum time limit is placed on cancelling a report for instance an hour or something. It does not help if the report is made and it just gets cancelled.

They have to do that while driving because Waze doesn’t prompt unless you are moving, so I’m not so sure that’s happening.

(Although, now that I think about it, I wonder if one just creates a route starting near that report, if Waze will prompt right away.)

Doesn’t the icon remain on the screen for a while, so at least you know that a cop was around?

Are you sure the reports are even accurate? I found that police reports here in California were rarely (if ever) accurate because 9 times out of 10 the Wazers were reporting cops that had already pulled someone over. Naturally they’d drive on back to their hiding spot afterwards so the report would be out of date almost immediately after it was posted.

Or people are, as we know they do because they think it helps, posting police cars which are currently driving.

I have noticed that sometimes when I place reports they don’t seem to show up consistently. Sometimes if I scroll and/or zoom the map the appear/disappear. I have also seen the same with jams.

I don’t know if this is some issue with event and jam sync between multiple routing servers or some other issue.

After reading threw this IMO:

I don’t think police are going to spend the time with waze open on there phone while sitting to catch speeders on the road. It just does not make since. The % of wazers to other traffic on the road not using waze is not going to hurt there bottom line. There is so many waze (yea I meant to do that) other then waze to find out if police are there for them to spend the time on this.

As far as reporting police I recommend reporting them when you see them. If they are just out and about on normal roads I would not but if it is interstate or Highway I would. The point is not how many police reports you get that end up not panning out when you get to that point. The point is at one point in time there was a police officer there so when you get in the area you are takeing a chance speeding or doing something else stupid in the area.

A cop that has a car pulled over has a sitting spot close enough to warrant a report.

Before this I used a CB for traffic/police reports. You would get police and traffic called out ten miles in advanced. When you are clipping along at 65 that goes quick. So reporting what you see when you see it is why you do it.

Cops don’t stay in one spot for too long. 90% of police reports I have to hit ‘not there’ because they’ve moved on.

Wouldn’t the officer have to drive through the report in order to clear it? most likely what is happening, is you report the officer sitting by the road, a few cars later he finishes writing the ticket he was working on and get’s back in the car, just in time to tag another speeder, by the time he pulls that car over he’s far enough along that other Wazers pass your report and mark it not there. So it goes away. The real question is why aren’t the other Wazers reporting him further along the line. I know I’ve watched a police report jump down the road as the officer moves from ticket to ticket, until he finally turns off.

Most the police I report have someone pulled over. I report them because Utah cops don’t seem to like the set hiding spot because people figure out where it is. Either that or because as soon as they finish one ticket, another one comes flying down the road doing 85 in a 65 zone. So they don’t need to go back to the hiding place. Also there aren’t that many good hiding places along our freeways.

Yep. That’s what I responded with in the 2nd post.

Well you weren’t really that clear, you just said he’d have to be moving.

Alan, I am not so sure, when stop driving waze shows repeatedly all alerts: it’s very easy to check them and report “not there” (if that’s the case)

You do not get the “Not there” button unless it is an alert which pops up while driving. When stopped, none of the popups have the button.

What other wazers? They aren’t always where you want them to be.

May I suggest that police reports have a number next to them indicating how old they are in minutes. A report that’s 30 min old is no good, however it is useful to know police are in the area on that highway.

Perhaps instead of the number they could be classified by color?? Green, new, yellow, aging, red, suspect??

I take all waze reports with a grain of salt anyway, but just because they aren’t entirely accurate doesn’t mean they aren’t entirely useful.

The color-classification is for ALL events a good idea.
