I’ve used Waze on my trip from Ottawa to Toronto. Now that I’m in Toronto Waze routes me on the 407 Toll Highway which I want to avoid at all cost due to the outrageous tolls. But it’s impossible to use Waze because it seems to route me on that awful highway no matter what I do. So today I’ve decide to turn Waze off until a “No Toll Roads” feature is available.
Sad to see you give up so quickly. That is a commonly made complaint/requested feature. I’d say just ignore it. Unless you are using Waze to get you to places you don’t know it’s not going to make that big of a deal. Another option than simply ignoring the false route, would be to keep driving the route. Watch for when it starts routing you the way you want it to. That’s your hint as to where the problem is. Basically somewhere along your route there is a turn restriction (or more) that has Waze convinced that the Toll road is the only route. Once you find the rough area of the problem you can post a permalink of the location/area here on the boards and we your friendly fellow Wazers will look into it, find and fix the problem. An additional but not necessary step would be to build your route on a google.map page and share that link with us. Then we can trace your intended route, find the problems and fix them.
We want Toll rd avoidance, but until that feature is provided, there are other options, number one of which is making sure the other possible routes are working. Don’t give up, help us fix it.
Does Waze not show any reasonable alternate routes when you tap “Routes”?
I’m a visitor here in Toronto so I don’t know my way around. In fact I’m in a hurry and want to get to my various appointments quickly. I rarely use the same route twice. Yes I do tap Routes to try and find alternates but when I’m close to the 407 ETR it invariably puts me on that darn highway. I love Waze but it’s just too frustrating and dangerous to use when I’m in Toronto close to that 407. Thought I could just ignore the turn onto the 407 and try to continue in what I thought was the correct direction but Waze will route me back onto that 407 even if it has to send me into the wrong direction of my appointment just to get me back onto it’s chosen route. Since I work in Toronto every second week it’s too much trouble to disconnect my old GSP, put in the iPhone holder back and forth. Until this no tolls feature is available I can’t see myself using Waze.
I understand the frustration with this missing feature. If I was Wazing in an area with many toll roads and alternatives I would not be satisfied with Waze either.
The option to avoid toll roads is coming, eventually… I was expecting this in July 2012 but it seems likely to be delayed.
I’ve been using Waze quite a lot now that I’m no longer in Toronto close the toll highway and am very much enjoying the app. Actually it’s now my most used app. One other issue is the fact that Canadian users are not supported as well as their US counterparts. Something else I’d very much like to see is “Schools & Universities” added in the categories section. The Categories section should also have a “Near a different City” feature. I’m very excited about this about Waze!
Not sure what you mean by having “Schools and Universities in the categories section”? Those are options for landmarks.
The client now has the option to look up places to go by category.
The purpose of these categories is so that a Wazer can find the closest coffee shop or gas station or hair salon, etc.
I don’t think that most people are going to have to look up the nearest school. You’re either going to the same school every day, or you’re bringing kids to the same schools every day. For that, you type in the name of the school once, set a favorite and use the favorite every day.
Okay, that makes a lot more sense, I haven’t used that aspect of the search tools at all, I search addresses. So I was drawing a blank at his references to categories.
You may not be off the mark by much.
It’s all my phone’s fault for using Tapatalk.
I agree with this statement but I work at schools and go to a different one everyday. It’s possible on my Garmin GPS to select schools and it lists all close by. I guess there are many other features to add that would be of use to more people and I understand this. No problem!
