Soon I’ll be driving around some other counties where my iPhone can’t connect to the Internet (at a reasonable price). I would like to use Waze as my GPS, only the navigation function.
I’ve being trying to use it without internet connection in my phone and it doesn’t work. If I search for any new destination Waze is unable to find it.
Is it possible to download the maps or whatever is needed to make it work without Internet connection?
Generally, the answer to your question is “no”. Waze is designed primarily to work with a data connection, so that your maps are always up-to-date and they can collect data about the roads you drive on.
You can pan around the map while on WiFi, and Waze will cache the map tiles. If you have downloaded enough detail, you may be able to navigate without a data connection. I’ve found with personal experience that this can work quite well for the daily commute around my home town, but not so well when visiting another country.
I would suggest either a) buying a local mobile SIM card, or b) looking at other navigation apps that do have offline maps.

OSMand might also be able to solve your needs :). It allows you to do download maps etc and use it as offline navigation. Not exactly waze territory, but at least it gets the job done, without requiring an internet connection.
But I too would like to see an option to save maps locally to the device. I mean it would not be impossible to make it so that waze would save mapdata locally, while caching all the roaddata to the phone and then uploading all the roaddata at a later time where the phone was either on WiFi or when the user came back home.
Not saying it will ever happen, nor that it would be easy :P. I just know its possible to ie save all the speeddata etc locally on the phone with an option in waze to manually upload it when you get back home or in WiFi land.
The other thing to note is that you will need to ‘navigate’ to the locations you expect to visit so that you can access them as recent destinations or save them as favorites in order to set destinations when using Waze off-network. Another option would be to rely on WiFi in your destination country to set/save the destinations.
You can also use the tap and hold method to set destinations but that may not be very useful if you don’t know where the locations are on the map.
but , Waze, you can … make the app such as Mapfactor …
with downloaded maps … fully maps of ALL each ones country …
and connect to internet only … ONLY for traffic information and to change routes due to traffic …
and if you wont have internet … just give us the … usual route…
if … cost the matter … then give us the opportunity to pay …
some euros …
i have ALL my countrys maps in Mapfactor , paid 15 eyros … and finished !!!
you are the best … in contactivity … socialize … traffic …
why could users paid or free , could have both benefits ?
and having offline maps … and if a new correction is made in the internet by editors… then to download new maps , for example … every week , or 15 days …
